Emilia Romagna

Emilia Romagna is a region with a great tradition of hospitality and generosity. It offers a varied palette of unmistakable colours, smells and flavours to satisfy the needs of every visitor.

The Emilia Romagna Riviera stretches for 110 km along the coastline, from Comacchio (FE) to Cattolica (RN). Every summer it welcomes thousands of tourists, attracted by the infinite number of opportunities for relaxation and entertainment; from the fully-equipped beaches to the theme parks, to the local folk festivals, or to the staged events which transform the beaches into a great open-air theatre.

There are places where modernization has left the past untouched: in the harbours, where the fishing-boats go out to sea, in the open-air museums, and the fascinating historic monuments.  For example, there is the port town of Cesenatico, surveyed by Leonardo, with its historic fish-market and Marine Museum; Rimini, with the Bridge of Tiberius and the House of the Surgeon, and Cattolica with the Museum of the Queen and the famous archaeological site.

You can travel inland very quickly from the coast. For those of you who like to explore while on holiday, to be out in the countryside or discovering old villages and interesting ruins, there are so many towns you can access very easily from the Romagna Riviera, including Gradara, San Leo, Montegridolfo, Saludecio, and  Mondaino.

The towns and villages lie alongside some National Parks and protected oases, and offer walking trails or cycle paths. One of the most important nature reserves in the region is undoubtedly the Po Delta Natural Park, one of Europe’s most important wetland areas, and a must on any itinerary.  The area abuts onto some fantastic places like the Pine-forests of Cervia and San Vitale in the Province of Ravenna, the old fishing-village of Goro (FE); Argenta (FE) and its natural oases, and the Abbey of Pomposa along the Romea road.

Emilia Romagna is a rich repository of art and history. Its famous artistic centres such as Ferrara, Bologna, Ravenna, and Parma, some of them declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, provide the perfect environment for a holiday rich in culture, and in search of the local traditions and legends concerning famous historical figures.

For those who want to combine a sea-side holiday on the Riviera with an experience of wellbeing and relaxation, the region offers numerous well-known Spa Centres, open throughout the year. For example, there are the Terme di Riccione and Rimini Terme, the Terme di Cervia (RA), the spa centre of Castrocaro (RA), the Terme di Bagno di Romagna (RA), the Terme della Fratta at Bertinoro, and the thermal station at Salsomaggiore (PR).

Emilia Romagna knows how to bewitch its visitors. There are numerous wine and food routes to follow which introduce you to the special culinary traditions of Emilia Romagna, and allow you simultaneously to explore some areas of great mystery and attraction.

There are countless restaurants, “trattorie”, and local inns scattered throughout the region where you can enjoy the authentic local cuisine. In addition, there are the local food festivals, which usually take place in the summer months, and which provide a delightful opportunity to appreciate the traditions and customs of the people of the area.

From north to south, from Piacenza to Rimini, the region is rich in typical local products, many of which have DOC and IGP status, such as the typical Piacenza salami, the Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, the famous prosciutto crudo (raw ham) from Parma, the “Fossa” cheese from Sogliano, and the Romagnapiadina” (flat bread).

Come and visit Emilia Romagna and discover the many aspects of this genuine and welcoming region!
